Day 1 Penzance - Okehampton

Hello,

We woke up in Penzance, which was no longer sunny, and had started raining. We discussed issues of cohabiting with each other. All waterproofs where deployed to counter the spitting rain. This arrogance seemed to anger the rain gods as it really began to lash it down. We rode through a comedy location called Cocks which for the puerile members thought it was funny it pointed to Jim and Zac.

3 punctures later we stopped for lunch at a pub which provide real Cornish Pasties. The very kind land lady, who mentioned her dad was using sanitary towels to combat the bum pains after completing Lejog, gave us £10.

Due to the unnecessary amount of map reading Carl, aka steptoe, had a paddy about stopping and checking the map. He was in favour of the policy of charging headlong in to the depth of the Cornish road system. Thankfully this advice was ignored or we may well still be trekking round the one car wide, banjo strumming Cornish roads.

During the day the climbs where in the extreme category leading to Andy really struggling, see the picture above. In a shocking turn of form Roger charged ahead of the group and decided to ignore his support crew and carry on riding to some unknown destination. Rogers decisions to ignore the map lead to the team taking a slight detour into banjo country. James had to risk explaining to Martin how one of his Hilux's got stuck in a Cornish road, which thankfully did not happen. The team reconvened near the Cornish miniature railway, more by luck than good judgement. Dave managed to take a nose dive across the road after this little stop.

The team where happy to approach Okehampton and realised that the road into town was entirely down hill. Acting as kids bust resisting the temptation to add card to the back wheels and create motorbike noises the team rushed at full speed down the hill into town. Ending the first day riding. Oh and Dave ate a lot of everyone else food.
